Outside of a dog, a book is a man's best friend...
You know the rest, right?
Luckily we don't have to choose. There are plenty of books about dogs. Sometimes
the bosses read to me bits and pieces of the ones they like best.
The boss man recently read Amazing Gracie and gives it 3 bones of 4. I
think it would have been a 4 bone review except for the sad ending, a common
problem with true life dog tales. I was lucky enough to visit one of their
stores just yesterday. Lyle and Spring and I give it 12 bones! From the
moment I walked in and smelled the treats baking right there in the store, I was
hooked. I wanted to try everything!
Here's another book for those who like some pictures with their words:
Flawed Dogs by Berkeley Breathed (of Bloom County fame). In my favorite part
of the book, shelter founder Heidy Strudelberg, former chief judge of the
Westminster Dog show, encounters a 3 legged street dog and awards him Best in
Show. Her comment? "Not for the cut of their coat, but for the content of their
character shall we love them!"
On behalf of all mutts everywhere, Hooray Heidy!
